Kerala Style Prawns Roast

This spicy, aromatic, and yummm-inducing recipe will have your stomach happy, and take you on a culinary journey to God's Own Country.


Ingredient List for Marination:

  • 1 kg prawns of your choice

  • 1 1tsp turmeric

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri chili powder

  • 1 tsp white vinegar

  • Salt as needed

Ingredient List for Prawns Gravy:

  • 1 onion chopped

  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp garlic paste

  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • ½ tsp coriander powder

  • 1 stem of curry leaves

  • Coconut oil

  • Water

  • Salt as needed

Instructions:

  1. Clean your prawns and set aside.

  2. Mix turmeric,Kashmiri chili powder, ground black pepper, vinegar, salt, and some water to make a smooth paste.

  3. Now use the paste to marinate prawns. Place it in the refrigerator for 30 mins.

  4. Heat coconut oil in a pan, and shallow fry the prawns. After fried, remove the prawns from pan, and set aside.

  5. In the same pan, splutter mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves (Add more oil if needed). Fry sliced onions until brown.

  6. Then add ginger garlic paste, and fry.

  7. Add chili powder, ground coriander and garam masala, and fry again and add a little water.

  8. Finally, add the fried prawns and salt. Add water to cook the prawns,

  9. Cook prawns until done, and add fresh curry leaves as garnish if desired.
